Established in 2015, Taaleem was born out of a vision to enhance access to quality higher education in Egypt. Our endeavors have not only strived to institutionalize the sector but also created job opportunities within the country. Our strategic investment in Taaleem, as well as the recruitment of a dynamic leadership team and acquisition of Nahda University Bani Suef (NUB), led to the genesis of the leading higher education group in Upper Egypt. Our efforts have facilitated sector institutionalization and have brought a significant improvement in the quality of education and employability of graduates. In 2019, we launched NUB's Medical University, the first private medical institution of its kind in Upper Egypt, established in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna. Further, Taaleem is also currently constructing Badya University, an upcoming university campus situated in West Cairo and Memphis University in East Cairo. Today, Taaleem stands as a premier institution in Egypt's higher education landscape, listed on the EGX and specializing in healthcare education. Our goal is to develop the future generation of healthcare professionals, catering to the emerging needs of the healthcare sector. www.taaleem.me

Impact: Education for Employment

Investment in tertiary education is critical to boosting shared prosperity by improving access to quality education, enabling social mobility, improving wages and reducing overall inequalities. In Egypt in particular, chronic underinvestment and rapid demographic shifts have led to overcrowded public universities and a growing supply-demand gap between available quality higher education seats and demand.

Our partner company Taaleem was established to address these challenges by offering a platform for rollout of STEM focused, affordable higher education capacity while improving competitiveness in the higher education market through increased scale and quality of services. Taaleem’s impact focus is on quality of education, student employability and graduate income expectations. Taaleem offers its students an affordable and inclusive combination of local and international higher education platforms that integrate education systems. Taaleem has also established needs-based scholarship at NUB for its faculty of Medicine, granting access to local underprivileged high-achievers to a world-class medical education while serving the local community. The recipients of this scholarship have been over 60% female. Furthermore, Taaleem’s focus on digitalization allowed for a seamless transition to online education delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic, training educators to deliver classes online and levelled the playing field by providing all its students with data SIM cards to access online content. Taaleem’s focus on inclusive higher education addresses gender balance through policies to promote and retain females and elevate female role models at its flagship university in addition to eliminating the gender pay gap at its faculties.
